The winning farmers and rural women were given away prizes on the concluding day of Kisan Mela at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today.
In vegetables, Mandeep Singh (Faridkot), Kanwaldeep Singh (Faridkot), Tarlochan Singh (Ropar), Tirath Singh (Sangrur), Karanveer Kaur (Sangrur), Satvinder Singh (Patiala), Yadvendra Singh (Sangrur), Takdir Kaur (Sangrur) and Sukhdeep Singh (Bathinda) won first prizes in potato, bottle gourd, green garlic, brinjal, cucurbit, mushroom, tomato, peas and chappan kaddu, respectively. In addition, Satvinder Singh (Patiala), Jagtar Singh (Ludhiana), Baj Singh (Ferozepur), Gurtej Singh (Sangrur), Kamaldeep Singh (Fazilka), Sukhwinder Kaur (Bathinda) and Raghuraj Singh (Sangrur) bagged first prizes for cabbage, cauliflower, dolichous, cucumber, green chilli, capsicum and okra, respectively. Randhir Singh from Kurukshetra got first prize for green onions.
In fruits, Jagdeep Singh (Ferozepur), Lakhvir Singh (Faridkot), Gurcharan Singh (Barnala), Ashwini Satiya (Fazilka) and Balvir Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib) bagged first prizes for ber, lemon, guava, kinnow and papaya, respectively. In field crops, Gurchet Singh (Bathinda), Sham Singh (Sangrur) and Baljit Singh (Barnala) were awarded first prizes for sugarcane, gur/shakker and green cholia, respectively. Randhir Singh and Mohan Singh from Kurukshetra and Sirsa (Haryana) bagged first prizes for turmeric and sarson, respectively. In flowers, Buta Singh (Mansa) and Gurwinder Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib) got first prizes for gladiolus and marigold, respectively. In home science competitions, first prizes were won by Gurwinder Kaur (Ludhiana) for preparation of nutritious recipes, Sukhmanpreet Kaur (Ludhiana) for drawing, Charanjit Kaur (Moga) for preparation items using waste material and Namita (Ludhiana) for crocheting. In the category of farm machinery and implements, John Deere (Pune) and Preet tractors (Nabha, Patiala) bagged first prizes for tractors and combines, respectively. Saron Mechanical Works (Ludhiana) got first prize for reapers, threshers and self propelled equipment while New Swan Multi Tech Limited (Ludhiana) won first prize for tractor driven implements.
Lubi Industries (Ahmedabad) was awarded first prize for electric motors, engines and pumping sets, whereas Raja Enterprises (Ludhiana) won first prize for tools and sprayers. Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (Chandigarh) bagged first prize for water saving tools and machines, whereas IFFCO (Ludhiana) was awarded first prize for fertilizers. Bayer Crop Sciences Limited (Thane) won first prize for pesticides, while K.C. Marketing Company (Ludhiana) got first prize for agro-processing machinery.
