The government of Kerala will submit a request before the Centre to officially block the online social media game Blue Whale that psychologically overpowers its players and forces them to end their life.Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, concerned over the alleged proliferation and told the assembly that the state government was keeping a vigil since there were reports that the game had recorded over 2,000 downloads in the state.
“Reports say that teenagers in this state may get attracted to this game. This game forced many teens to commit suicide. Players blindly carry out the tasks given by the administrator. I don’t know whether it is possible for the state government to block the game, but I ask the government to take every possible action to save our youngsters,” MLA Raju Abraham told Vijayan, who also holds the IT portfolio.Vijayan said that “The government has issued a warning. Police are also closely monitoring those who have downloaded the game. Police have asked them to uninstall the games from their gadgets. Since Indian Computer Emergency Response Team is the agency that could do something to halt the availability of the game, the state government would appeal the Center to take steps and block it in India.”
