Web series are a hit among people as they explore stories which any person can relate to. There are certain topics which can create an impact in a person living or can force him/her to think beyond normal societal perspective. To challenge stereotype related to women, another web series is coming on MXPlayer from 20th February. While launching the trailer of ‘Aafat’ at Chandigarh, Neha Dhupia said, “A lot of you must be thinking I am not in the show but why I am launching it. The answer is simple, I stand for what the show conveys. As a celebrity, I have never lent myself to a specific show. I stand for what I believe in. Aafat is a bold web series which challenges society patriarchy.” Aafat is a story of five perspective women who are perfectly all right but according to society, they all have imperfections. To start with the character Anu, played by Neelam Sivia, is a successful coder but is bald. Ayesha (Anshul Chauhan) is a voice-over artiste but she has never waxed her body. Faiza (Chitrashri Rawat) is a budding poetess but she uses language which is considered ‘inappropriate’.
Aditi (Shakti) holds an MBA degree and is overweight. Titli (Nikita Dutta) is a talented entrepreneur but she is divorced. All these women have different personalities. When asked what is the definition of feminism according to all of them. Explaining feminism Nikita Dutta said, “Feminism is not complicated. Its very simple. Sure, there is a need for it. But it’s not about men vs women. Feminism means equality. It means being at par”. Neha Dhupia further said, “I agree with Nikita feminism is all about equality.” “Women are not asking for more rights, we just want what is ours. Just give us our fundamental rights. Live and let live it’s that simple,” declared Chitrashri Rawat. It’s easy to say that change is happening but where is it, no one can see it or experience it. A normal girl still faces eve-teasing every single day. It does not matter where she is, in which area she lives etc. She still has to face men staring at her irrespective of what she is wearing. Web series like Aafat are great and we hope it makes a change in the mindset of people. But equality between both men and women appears to be a far dream.
