Destination wedding: There has been 50 % annual increase in destination weddings with elite opting exotic locations in countries such as Bangkok, Dubai, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Goa and Malaysia
Destination wedding is the new craze in Ludhiana and has caught the fancy of business class of this industrial city. For some-time now, the wedding planners are busy in organizing these weddings not only overseas but also in different parts of the country.
Locations including Thailand, Dubai, Sri Lanka, Goa, Malaysia, Rajasthan and Masouri among others have become top favorite for the wedding planners who are minting money by organizing weddings with fancy decoration at these sites.The preference to invite selective close relatives and friends, status symbol, more privacy, exotic international locations are driving the elite to opt for destination weddings. Simran Brar of Rasam Weddings based in Chandigarh said that businessmen from Ludhiana often approach her company to organize weddings at distant locations. “While Dubai and Thailand are one of the favorite destinations of people from Punjab, locations such as Jim Corbett and hill stations like Dharamshala have also come on the map of destination wedding” said Brar. Another wedding planner based in Ludhiana who dint want to be named, said that reveling in luxurious destination wedding is fast catching up among the elites of Ludhiana and Punjab as well. “Apart from the fun that these weddings endow, organizing it in overseas destination has become more of a status symbol for the elite. In Punjab alone the destination wedding market has been growing at 20 percent annually with the elite of Ludhiana being the maximum contributor”.
The elite of Ludhiana have even shown interest in cruise wedding and while few of them are interested in organizing a desert safari wedding in Dubai. Moreover the travelling to these destinations has also become way cheaper as there are select travel offers that cost as low as Rs 8000 for return ticket to Singapore.
As per figures Thailand alone has seen more than 150 weddings in 2016 from India while in 2017 that number has already been crossed till September. The trend of destination wedding has been growing at a whopping 50 percent annual basis.
