The ‘Theatre House’ to stage a play to the residents of the city “Ji Jaisi Apki Marzi” to be performed at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh on February 16, 2019 at 6: 30 pm directed by Nitu Sharma and Gaurav Sharma. The play revolves around everyday issues dealt by the women of our society ranging from child marriage, rape, discrimination between a boy and a girl child and how women with a strong will p o w e r overcome t h e i r p r o b – l e m s and rise. The play s h o w s the int e r n a l d e p r e s – sion that a woman has to go t h r o u g h d e a l i n g with problems that are made by the society and how she gets up and faces the problems with courage. The acts are written by Nadira Babbar and they depict the plight of women in the rural as well as urban set up.
It is based on empowering women in a society that has always looked down upon them from the time they are born to the age they bear a child themselves. The discrimination between a girl and a boy is shown with depth and melancholy way that brings an individual to a sombre question of how is the society been treating women. The actors involved are Anjali Sharma, Mridula, Neetu Sharma and Prashasti. The play is based on symbolisms and lighting. Set design and lighting that has been used to explain the situations like the sadness of rape or the joy of childhood is directed by Lovepreet Singh. The play is based on 2 acts with the first one being of a little girl Deepa and how she and her 2 sisters have always been a reason for anger by her family due to the fact of them being girls and how her brother is always praised and looked after. The play continues with act 2 with a story of a Muslim lady, who has to bear the brunt of birthing 4 girls and is thrown out of her house.
