l A RECENT STUDY UNFOLDED THAT INDIANS WILL BUY OVER 300 MILLION SMARTPHONES IN THE YEAR 2019. AND, ANOTHER DATA REVEALED THAT 59 PER CENT OF THESE SMARTPHONES ARE CONSUMED BY PUNJAB
Gone are the days when there was just one landline phone in the entire society and that phone number was distributed among one and all. The ringing of landlines is rare these days. With the doom of these telephones emerged the smartphones, and the long cables that connected the world are now resting in peace! But how does it matter! The demise of landline phones doesn’t mean that the world lost a precious treasure. Rather, the very network has become even easier as well as stronger. Kudos to the digital revolution and an invention called smartphone. And this invention is giving impetus to the life of Indians almost every day. A recent study unfolded that Indians will buy over 300 million smartphones in the year 2019. And, another data revealed that 59 per cent of these smartphones are consumed by Punjab. Meanwhile, according to smartphone players falling under affordable segment, Punjab is catering for the business growth by leaps and bounds.
In a recent conversation with Daily Post, the CEO of Chinese smartphone brand Realme, Madhav Sheth, said, “Punjab is our fifth largest market. The state has a huge number of youngsters, especially college goers. And these are youngsters who experiment more when it comes to smartphones.” Sheth said that Punjab as a whole contributes 35 per cent to brand’s entire sales throughout India. He reasoned that because of the presence of Punjab, the state becomes one of the top markets for the smartphones. He also said that by the end of 2022, India will become world’s number one smartphone market. Needless to say, Punjab has a huge contribution for India to achieve this rank. Earlier, a Vietnamese handset brand, Mobiistar, has expressed its expectations from the market of Punjab. Company’s CEO Carl Ngo, during his visit to Chandigarh had said that Chandigarh is on of the top markets where a “stronghold” for their company can be built. Carl also admitted that smartphone market is huge in North India and “Punjab is an extremely important part of this market”. In terms of smartphone penetration in India, Kerala tops the list with 65 per cent smartphone users, followed by Gujarat with 60 per cent smartphone users and then Punjab with 59 per cent smartphone buyers and users. The data was released by a market intelligence firm as a roundup for 2018.
