Mass awareness campaign for the prevention of Dengue/malaria/chikunguneya by health and ICDS department in whole Patiala district
A mass level dengue, malaria and chikunguneya awareness campaign flagged off by Dr Balwinder Singh CS Patiala at Sieon chowk, Ranjit nagar at 8.00 am, which was highly affected area last years to percolate this activities at ground level in all high risk populations similar activities were done in all rural six block (shutrana,dudhan sadan,harpalpur, kalomajra ,bhadson kauli) and urban four blocks (Patiala,nabha rajpura and samana) of district Patiala as per last two years data .
He said micro plan of urban and rural was prepared in which 300 Teams were made consisting of Medical OFFICER, ANM, Asha workers, Aaganwari workers, Multipurpose health male workers , nursing students and supported by generation welfare NGOs, Representative from IMA and peer leaders.
Aware people about emptying of cooler, pot and containers
He said this is first kind of activities planned by us, same as pulse polio campaign in which door to door visit by workers done in all vulnerable area in a single day to aware people that emptying of cooler, pots, containers etc to be done every Friday so that no breeding take place.
Awareness is the first step to prevent breeding of mosquitoes and diseases to great extent
Dr Gurmeet singh District epidemiologist said that today total 33207 houses were visited in high risk areas in which 4250 coolers , 4038 containers, 4761 fridge tray were checked and emptied and 25350 pamphlets distributed. He also appealed people that the without their cooperation no department alone will curb this menace, awareness is the first step to prevent breeding of mosquitoes and diseases to great extent.
He said that dengue, Malaria and chikunguneya’s mosquitoes needs fresh and stagnant water for laying eggs and these places are commonly found inside our houses not in sewage, dirty water and garbage. Dr Manjeet Singh SMO, Tripuri said that due to mass awareness camp organized by health department in Bishan nagar, Sundar nagar, Pandit din dyal upadayay colony etc in 2015 led to very few cases reporting in this area in 2016, so this kind of awareness effort will lead to check on upcoming disease like chikunguneya and dengue.
Dr Gurmanjeet Kaur district epidemiologist said that during door to door activities Mosquitoes larvas were found in some places in the coolers and containers, it was emptied. They were told that every Friday checking of all containers/coolers to be done by individual house members. In case if again mosquitoes breeding challan will be issued by the municipal cooperation .she appealed people that every year change grass of cooler because eggs are laid in it and after getting water they get hatched. She said that people to ensure wearing of full sleeve clothes with shoes to prevent mosquitoes’ biting.
