Egyptian Doaa Salah woman sentenced for 3 yrs over unmarried sex talk. A popular Egyptian TV presenter has been sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined 10,000 Egyptian pounds (Rs. 36,622) for inciting single women to get pregnant, thereby “threatening the fabric of Egyptian life.”She discussed ways of becoming pregnant outside a conventional marriage. She was charged and convicted with outraging public decency. Salah was also ordered to pay 10,000 Egyptian pounds (£430) in compensation. The authorities said the ideas in the programme “threatened the fabric of Egyptian life”, the EFE news agency reports. Salah’s show was suspended for three months in August before she was tired and found guilty of promoting indecency and debauchery. Egyptian authorities said Salah’s program “promoted immoral ideas that are alien to our society and threatened the fabric of Egyptian life.” “I did not intend to incite people to commit immoral actions. Why did they punish me? I just presented my view. The episode was like a movie show,” Salah reportedly said.
Salah further suggested the husband could be paid a fee for the temporary marriage, comparing it to sperm donation, which is banned in Egypt. Her prison sentence follows an initial verdict that is open to appeal.
