Itanagar: The prevalence of anaemia continues to be a big challenge in Arunachal Pradesh according to the India Health Report which shows that 63.9 percent of children under five years of age and 56.7 percent of women aged between 15-49 years are anaemic in the state. Anaemia prevalence among pregnant women is even higher at 61.8 percent and during pregnancy only 27.7 percent of women are reported consuming 100 IFA supplementation.
This was informed by Meghalaya’s Additional Chief Secretary Yeshi Tsering during a state level consultation on accelerating progress towards good nutrition for all in Shillong on August 9. “However, there has been a major decline in prevalence of stunting among children under-five years in Arunachal Pradesh,” an official release quoting him said today.
The state has achieved the largest decline in child stunting rate among other states during the period between National Family Health Survey-3, 2005-06 and Rapid Survey on Children conducted during 2013-14, he said. PTI
