China has shown interest in renewing its proposal to set up high-speed railway projects in India. India has chosen Japan as its partner for its first project. When China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang asked about the use of Japanese technology in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, he said that China is happy to see other infrastructure, including high-speed rail in region of the country. He expressed his interest in the restoration of a kind of plan, saying, “We are ready to promote cooperation with India and other regional countries for regional cooperation.”He said that as far as railway support is concerned, it is a part of practical cooperation in India and China. There has been significant agreement on this in both the countries. Officials of both the nations are discussing the project and the speed of the trains is being increased in the current projects.India and China have been working on a number of agreements on cooperation in the development of railways, under which Indian railway engineers are being trained in China. China is also helping India in establishing a rail university. China has also started the work of upgrading some railway stations in India. China has the world’s fastest rail network.It is worth mentioning that China is promoting its high-speed rail technology overseas and it was in the race to get the first deal in India. China has also done a deep study on Delhi-Chennai corridor. China has shown this interest at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe are in the process of laying the foundation stone for India’s first bullet train project.
