Robert Vadra, the husband of the AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi was grilled for more than eight hours by the Enforcement department here on Tuesday. Vadra’s 75- year old mother Maureen Vadra was also interrogated for an hour. Vadra was interrogated for his alleged land deals in Kolayat sub division under Bikaner district. His appearance before the ED in Jaipur is directed by the Rajasthan High Court which asked Vadra and his mother to cooperate with the agency after they approached it seeking directions that no coercive action is taken against them by the agency. Earlier in the morning Priynaka Gandhi, who flew in from Lucknow to be with her husband on Monday night dropped him and her mother in-law at the enforcement department’s office. The ED had summoned Vadra to appear before it in Jaipur and sent him three notices ,but Vadra failed to appear and did not answer to the notices.
Following this the ED approached the High Court and sought the court’s help to ask Vadra to appear before the ED in Jaipur. The ED had registered a criminal case in connection with the deal in 2015, taking cognisance of a clutch of FIRs and charge sheets filed by the Rajasthan police after the tehsildar of Bikaner complained about alleged forgery in the allotment of land in the area, considered sensitive due to its proximity to the Indo-Pak border. The ED, it is learnt questioned Vadra about the operations of a firm — Ms Skylight Hospitality Private Limited — allegedly linked to him, which had purchased land in the area. The firm bought a large chunk of land in Kolayat Tehsil and the land is a wasteland, but the company bought it with a view to selling it to the solar power developers who needed land to build solar parks.
