The centre’s new interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir has been announced. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, on Monday, announced Dineshwar Sharma, a former intelligence bureau chief, as centre’s new interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir. Rajnath Singh declared that the retired officer would have “complete freedom” to hold sustained dialogue with all groups and individuals” including the Kashmiri separatists.The security agencies had been anchoring from Delhi for cracking down the foreign fundings for the Kashmiri separatists. The appointment of Dineshwar Sharma is the first concrete attempt by the NDA government in three years to reach out to Kashmiris.During the Government’s meetings with other Political parties, the Union Home Minister informed that they had received many suggestions that there should be dialogue. Rajnath Singh added,“There is no bar on him to talk to one group and not another… We want to understand aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir.”Rajnath Singh also illustrated that the centre wanted someone without any political connections as he would be the most-suited to reach out all individuals and organisations concerned in the matter. He said that this was why the Government decided to go for the intelligence chief as its interlocutor.
