Farmers dump potatoes: An embarrassing situation was faced by Yogi Adityanath government because quintals of potatoes were dumped outside Vidhan Sabha building and outside Chief Minister’s residence. They dumped these rotten potatoes because they are upset over low prices and farmers took this step to make the police aware.The farmers were agitated that the government had fixed just Rs 487 as the minimum support price for a quintal of potato, as opposed to their demand of Rs 1,000. Four constables and a sub-inspector were suspended for alleged dereliction of duty after farmers dumped heaps of rotten potatoes outside Uttar chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence in Lucknow.Senior Superintendent of Police Lucknow Deepak Kumar said the vehicles of the farmers, who were involved in throwing potatoes have been identified and that they would be acted upon.
Farmers, however, said they have not done anything wrong as this was a symbolic protest against the government and its policies. Farmers are angry at their crops being wasted and said the BJP-led government is doing nothing to arrest the decay.
