We believe that social harmony can be achieved only by following the path shown by Baba Saheb. I feel proud to work at the feet of Baba Saheb.
If the son of a woman, who used to fetch water in others’ houses could become the Prime Minister, the credit for it goes to Ambedkar.
Mhow/New Delhi: Ahead of crucial Assembly polls in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh next year, where Dalits and OBCs hold sway in a large number Assembly seats, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the BJP pack in making the most of Dr B R Ambedkar, the Dalit icon who was never treated on par with the saffron party’s top ideologues in the past. Modi on Wednesday, while hitting back at the Congress which has accused him of trying to ‘appropriate’ the legacy of national icons, said the party that ruled the country for decades should ‘repent’ for ‘undermining’ the legacy of the architect of the Constitution.
Modi, who addressed a rally on the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar at his birthplace at Mhow on Thursday, Modi asked why the Congress was getting perturbed when his government was working ardently for fulfilling the vision of the Dalit icon and said he would have felt proud to work at “the feet of Baba Saheb.” Modi, who had faced attack from Congress for trying to “appropriate” national icons, asked why the successive Congress governments did not develop the five places “panch teerth” associated with Ambedkar during their tenure.
The Prime Minister, who chose the occasion to launch the ‘Gram Uday se Bharat Uday Abhiyan’ (village self governance campaign), said it was inspired by Amdedkar, who was a farsighted votary of social harmony and modern technology. Listing a number of measures that his government is taking to carry forward the vision of Ambedkar including those for empowering the weaker sections, Modi said, “For so many years, the vision of Ambedkar was undermined.”DP
Mayawati attacks PM for his Dalit outreach
Lucknow: Cautioning Dalits and backwards against the BJP’s designs, former UP chief minister Mayawati on Thursday said its leaders will only act as ‘bonded labourers of RSS’ and claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi could do little for the OBCs though he claims to belong to the community. “BJP or RSS can make any Dalit or backward as the prime minister or chief minister of any state but he cannot do any thing good for his people…he will always remain a bonded labourer of BJP or RSS,” the BSP supremo said taking on her political rivals at a meeting to pay homage to B R Ambedkar on his 125th birth anniversary. Her remarks came in the backdrop of BJP appointing Keshav Prasad Maurya, a backward, as the UP unit president. PTI
