Mauli is 57 years old and still manages to climb the high mountains of the Himalayas to get honey. Mauli belongs to the Gurung tribe. This tribe of Nepal is known hunters of honey. Only two such persons are left now. National Geographic has prepared a documentary called ‘The Last Hunter Who Defies Death’. This documentary has been prepared by photographer Renan Ozertke. During this time, Renan spent a lot of time with Mauli and his disciple Asadan and went with them to make a film on his honey extraction. Ryan explains that after seeing how Mauli was hunting, he had stopped breathing. Because, Maulihangs out of the high mountains only with the help of a bamboo staircase and pulls out the honey.When Mauli hung the height of 400 feet on Everest and removed honey, they remained unaware. The downside was scary and there was no scope for error. However, this didn’t matter to Mauli. They have been defying death like this since childhood. Now the height of the mountains is like the children’s play for them. Mauli explains that now only two people are left in their tribe who can extract honey. One is Mauli and the other is his disciple, Asadan. Asadan is 40 years old.The whole tribe used to work only to remove honey, but due to low income, people gradually became involved with other business. Mauli had learned this skill from his father at the age of 15. They were always present on the mountains with their father. Mauli learned to make a bamboo staircase from his father. In this, Mauli explains that till now having been cut by so many bees, their sting is no longer affects them.Mauli says that according to the changing season, they come to the Himalayas and their journey is three to four days.
During this time, they collect up to 20 kg honey. The price of this honey in the market is 15 thousand rupees per kg. It is one of the best honey in the world.
