Once taking u-turn from her statement, the rape convict dera sacha sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s so-called adopted daughter Honeypreet Insaan alias Priyanka Taneja on Wednesday reconfirms her stay at Bathinda village. This time she admitted to have stayed at a hideout at village Jangirana of the district for one week.Notably, Punjab Police were consistently denying her stay in Bathinda district during the period she was hiding herself from Haryana Police after they issued look notice against her. Honeypreet is accused of instigating Punchkula violence took place on August 25, following the arrest of Gurmeet Ram Rahim. Unwilling to accept the repeated claims of Punjab Police, after a gap of six days, Panchkula Police again brought Honeypreet to Bathinda for investigation on Wednesday. Notably, this time Haryana cops opted not to give prior information to Bathinda Police.Surrounded by dozens of cops from Haryana including several females, Honeypreet was taken to a huge farm house located on the outskirts of village Jangirana in the district. The house, as learnt, belonged to her accomplice Sukhdeep Kaur’s husband Iqbal Singh’s cousin Gurmeet Singh.
Sukhdeep Kaur is also in the custody of Panchkula police as she was arrested along with Honeypreet about a week ago near Zirakpur. It is alleged that Sukhdeep had played key role in providing hideouts to Honeypret after the police booked her under different sections of the IPC including sedition, following the violence in Panchkula on August 25.Opting for not involving Bathinda cops in the operation, Haryana Police officials straightway took Honeypreet to Jangirana village and after spending sometime in questioning her at the first floor of the house, where some mattresses, pillows and quilts were stacked in the cupboard, they then reported their arrival at Nandgarh police station in the district.
As the information was leaked from Nandgarh police station, dozens of people along with numerous media persons rushed the village, however, by the time Haryana police had left for undisclosed place. Village Sarpanch Nirmal Singh confirmed the arrival of Honeypreet and Haryana cops to the village stating that he was in the village when some neighbours informed him about the development.“I rushed to the house of Gurmeet Singh and found dozens of cops from Haryana were inspecting the house and questioning Honeypreet Insaan in the presence of the house owner Sharanjit Kaur, mother of Gurmeet Singh. During the interrogation, Sharanjit Kaur as well as Honeypreet admitted to have stayed in the house for about a week,” informed the village Sarpanch.
Sharing his information, the sarpanch said: “This house belongs to Gurmeet Singh son of Sharanjit Kaur, who is Sukhdeep Kaur’s husband Iqbal Singh’s paternal aunt’s son. While answering the police queries, Gurmeet’s mother informed that last month she was away from the house as her daughter-in-law was under treatment at DMCH Ludhiana.”“She was unaware of the fact that Honeypreet was staying at her place. As soon as she learnt about her presence in the house, she asked Gurmeet to get the house vacated immediately. Going by her mother’s direction, he asked Iqbal following which Honeypreet and Sukhdeep left for another hideout,” shared Nirmal Singh. Asked if Gurmeet’s family was also dera follower, the sarpanch denied, saying: “They have no connection with the dera. It was just the request of his cousin that Gurmeet would have obliged.”
Bathinda SSP Naveen Singla, when contacted, confirmed that Haryana Police brought Honeypreet to the district for investigation but without giving any prior information to Bathinda police. Asked about her admission of staying at Bathinda to evade arrest, Singla said: “Haryana Police didn’t divulge the details with us.”On the other hand, highly placed sources in Punjab Police informed that Honeypreet’s stay in Bathinda district was confirmed by the state police few days back but finding it a major failure of intelligence on their part, they were trying to cover up the matter by simply rejecting the repeated claims of Haryana Police.
Earlier, on October 5 Panchkula Police had brought Honeypreet to Bathinda city and inspected a house located in Ganesh Nagar, which belonged to her co-accused Sukhdeep Kaur. After spending an hour, they all had returned to Panchkula as the cops couldn’t find anything substantial to establish her stay there. On their return, Bathinda police had heaved a sigh of relief projecting that their claim was proved correct. However, Wednesday’s development left the state police embarrassed for Honeypreet and the owner of the ‘hideout’ both admitting her stay here in the district that too for at least one week.
