WITH TEARS IN THE EYES AND ON THE BRINK OF CRYING, SHREYASHI QUIPPED, “DEVIL, MURDERER, CULPRIT AND RAPIST ‘RAM RAHIM’ SHOULD BE HANGED TILL DEATH. IT HAS BEEN A SPAN OF 16 PANIC YEARS WHICH MY FAMILY HAS GONE THROUGH. FINALLY, THE JUDGMENT DAY HAS COME AND THE FATE OF THAT ‘DEVIL’ WILL BE DECIDED TODAY. IT WAS A BATTLE AGAINST POWER, AN EMPIRE AND A PERSON WHO WIELDS TERROR. ALSO, I WISH TO BE A PART OF HEARING IN THE COURT SO THAT HE CAN SEE THE PAIN AND FEAR OF DEATH IN HIS EYES BUT IT IS UP TO THE COURT TO ALLOW ME TO BE A PART OF IT. THE PROTRACTED STRUGGLE TO GET JUSTICE FOR MY FATHER HAD FINALLY YIELDED RESULTS. IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW TO DAILY POST SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT RAVINDER SINGH MALIK, THE DAUGHTER OF SLAIN RAMCHANDER CHHATRAPATI, SHREYASHI, WHO WAS JUST 16 AND STUDYING IN CLASS XI THEN, SHARED THE STRUGGLE AND EXPERIENCES OF HER FAMILY AFTER THE MURDER OF HIS FATHER IN 2002 BY THE GUILTY RAM RAHIM.
Q.Court will announce quantum of sentence today, what do you expect and wish?
A. Ram Rahim was a devil in disguise of a saint. I wish that he is sentenced to death and goes through the fear and pain in his eyes until the day of death. I hope, the court will award him capital punishment as battle for justice was tough. That self-styled disgraced godman deserves capital punishment. He is not such a man to live in a society like ours.
Q.What difficulties has your family faced so far?
A. We had to face a lot of difficulties and suffer a lot as he was very powerful and had access to the highest corridor of power. The happiness in our life was faded away. But we did not surrender or succumb to any pressure. We were living under life threat. It was a long battle, we had to fight and finally my brother brings it to an end. Even, the very known and close to us, left us in the mid which was very shocking for us. They all forgot us leaving us lonely to fight a battle.
Q. Did political parties offer helping hand?
A. Rejecting outrightly, she said that we had been neither promised nor offered a helping hand by any of the political parties and the government in the state since 2002. All the political parties maintained a distance from our family as they needed votes of guilty’s followers. They considered those standing with Chattrapati as standing against Dera and them. It was quite disappointing for us.
Q. Media justified its role or not, what do you think?
A. To some extent, the media failed their own member. After the death of my father, the media fraternity and friends pledged to fight the battle but soon the number started depleting with time. Whenever, the annual programme ‘Chattrapati Samman’ in memory of my father took place every year on November 21, a very few journalists were seen, though the media played a vital role and stood by us on many occasions. Let me tell everyone that me and my family will continue contributing to journalism as it is a mission, not occupation to us.
Q. How do you take brother Anshul’s role so far?
A. He fought the battle for 16 years to get justice and he had to fight a lone battle, though, I never found him defeated. Along with the responsibility of the family, he sacrified his life for justice. It would not have been possible to fight the battle without him and his sacrifice proves fruitful today.
Q. How was your father as a person?
A. He was a jolly and emotional human being. My cousin had last talk with my father. He left us saying that we had to defeat that devil, irrespective of any result.
