Mumbai: Maharashtra government will hike the annual income limit of parents of non-creamy layer category OBC students seeking scholarships, to Rs 6 lakh from the current Rs 4.5 lakh, the Assembly was informed today.
The students, whose parents’ annual salary stands at Rs 6 lakh (current limit Rs 4.5 lakh) can now apply for various scholarships, thus bringing more pupils under the scheme’s ambit. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the state Assembly that the decision will apply to Vimukta Jati, Nomadic Tribes, Other Backward Class and Special Backward Class.
Fadnavis also said there’s a proposal to set up a separate ministry for development of OBCs. Students seeking admission in academic year 2016-17 will benefit from the decision, Fadnavis said. PTI
