The rallies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in poll bound Himachal Pradesh are also echoing in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir. On Sunday when Modi stated during a rally that soldiers from Himachal are stone pelted in Kashmir, president of National Conference and former Chief Minister of J&K Omar Abdullah launched an attack on Modi.
Modi perhaps forgot that Kashmir, where he claimed that soldiers from Himachal are stone pelted, is a PDP-BJP ruled state since year 2015. Taking a jibe over Modi’s statement, Omar Abdullah on micro-blogging website, Twitter, wrote “On his campaign trail PM Modi highlights the failure of his ally Mehbooba Mufti and her administration”.
Indian army soldiers have to face frequent stone pelting whenever they are deployed in sensitive areas to flush out armed ultras. Miscreants try to thwart the operation by pelting stones on the army personnel and divert their attention to give an easy escape to the terrorists. During the stone pelting many soldiers are wounded severely. Modi was also criticized for pitching Himachali voters against Kashmir. Some Twitterati also took potshots on Modi over his comment and posted hilarious pictures on micro blogging site. However army has never come up with the number of injured soldiers and the states which they belong to.
Interestingly, Modi also stated during another rally in Palampur on Sunday that former Chief Minister of Himachal Prem Kumar Dhumal is known for his contribution for promoting tourism in the state because of militancy in Kashmir. Modi said that Himachal was able to get the influx of tourism during Dhumal’s tenure which was diverted from Kashmir owing to inhospitable conditions. However the PDP-BJP government in J&K has severely failed in promoting tourism especially in Jammu region during its three years rule. Six foreign tourists were recently who had come to Kashmir from Leh were taken into captivity by locals on being mistaken as braid choppers. Many tourists were thrashed for the same reason in the recent times by locals giving a sense of fear.
