Terrorist Abdul Karim Tunda has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Sonipat Court for two bomb blasts in Sonipat in Haryana in 1996. At the same time, a fine of Rs. 1 lakh has also been imposed. He was convicted on Monday by the Sonipat court. Judge Dr. Sushil Garg has passed the sentenced. Tunda was arrested by the Delhi Police from Nepal border in 2013.
During the hearing in September, Tunda had said in court that he was in Pakistan at the time of the bomb blasts. On the evening of December 28, 1996, first blast took place at Tarana Cinema near Bus Stand. After 10 minutes, the second blast took place near the Bagh Misthan Bhandar located at Geeta Bhawan Chowk. About one dozen people were injured in this bomb blast.
Born to a laborer in 1943 in Darya Ganj area of Old Delhi, Tunda studied till 8th class in nearby town Pilkhuva in Delhi. After the death of Tunda’s father, he left his studies. He went to Meerut by his uncle’s place, hoping that his study would start again, but he was made to work there.
When his mother came to know, she called him back.After initiating with small scale works, Tunda started the trade of cloths in 1983. He suffered huge losses in his new business. After that he went to Ahmedabad to his relatives.
He was then married for the second time with a woman named Mumtaz. Both of them have a 29-year gap. In Ahmedabad, Abdul Karim Tunda worked as a scrap dealer for a short time.
