India Army has made arragements to hold tanks and other armoured vehicles in Akhnoor division of Army. The reorganisation of Army will help to deter the threat of Pakistan in across the Line of Control (LoC) in the lower parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The division is tasked with countering the threat in the Chammb-Jaurian sector, west of Akhnoor.
The Akhnoor sector is very important to India as during the 1965 and 1971 wars Pakistan had tried to block the area. The 10th Infantry Division of the Indian Army which is currently based at Akhnoor has now been converted into “Rapids” or Reorganised Army Plains Infantry Divisions. The regiments will hold 100 tanks in one division and another dicision will also hold 100 of mechanised armoured vehicles.
The Rapids division will hold two infantry brigades, artillery elements, a reconnaissance and support battalion, an engineer regiment, a signals regiment and latest surveillance with target acquisition equipment.
