Opposition AAP MLAs protest outside Secretariat
CHANDIGARH: MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Aman Arora, Kanwar Sandhu and and Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) MLAs Simarjeet Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains on Tuesday staged a protest in front of Punjab Civil Secretariat asking Punjab government to implement the resolution passed by Punjab Vidhan Sabha on the issue of water royalty.Addressing the media, Leader of the Opposition in state Vidhan Sabha Sukhpal Singh Khaira said that during the last government, the issue of sharing Punjab water with Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi had been taken up and the Vidhan Sabha had then passed the resolution unanimously to demand royalty from these states. “From then onwards, no action has been taken in this regard and AAP and LIP has decided to push the matter by holding protest.” said Khaira.He said that as per the international Riparian Law, these states have to pay the royalty of water they have been using. State AAP co-president and Sunam MLA Aman Arora said that the Punjab state owed Rs one lakh debt, so if the state got all the money that was pending from these states, then Punjab could flourish. He said that chief minister must look into the matter and ask these states to pay the money at the earliest. The protest was later called off following a visit from a representative of the state government, who assured the MLAs of arranging a meeting with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on the issue at the earliest.
