The country’s President Pranab Mukherjee’s tenure ends on July 24, 2017. Similarly Vice President Hamid Ansari’s tenure will be completed on August 10 this year. Therefore, the movement of political parties has started for the next president and vice-presidential election.
When the media asked former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a function in Nabha about the presidential election, he replied that he is always present for the service of the people of Punjab and as long as life’s breath he Will continue to serve. He said that at the Center he has done a little work but after that, he took over as Chief Minister in Punjab and served the people.
It is noteworthy that Parkash Singh Badal has been Chief Minister of Punjab five times. They have a long experience of politics. Apart from this, they have a good rapport with the BJP. The big deal is that he is the oldest among all leaders. Because Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP are in alliance, due to which BJP can declare them the Presidential candidate.
How President election held?
The President is elected by the Elected MP of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and similarly President is also elected by the Electoral College. This electoral college consists of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members and MLAs of different states. The electoral college currently has a total weight of 10,98,882 votes for its members. So the winning candidate has to get 5,49,442 weightage. It is mentionable here that electoral college members have a single vote transfer, but their second choice is also counted.
