“IF ELECTED, I WILL ENSURE THAT FULFILLING ALL THE UNFULFILLED PROMISES WILL BE MY TOP PRIORITY. THE COMMON MAN WILL GET MY SPECIAL ATTENTION AND I WILL MAKE SURE HE IS BENEFITED AND IS NOT LEFT HARASSED WITH FAKE PROMISES,” SAID DHAWAN.
In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, former BJP leader and former Union Minister Harmohan Dhawan will contest for the Member of Parliament seat from Chandigarh. Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal arrived in Punjab on Sunday to launch the party’s election campaign for the Lok Sabha polls with a rally in Barnala town and there he officially announced Dhawan’s name. In November last year, Dhawan had joined AAP. In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Gul Panag, AAP’s candidate in Chandigarh, had got one lakh votes. Talking to Daily Post, Dhawan said, “I am happy that AAP has shown trust in me and I am confident that this time the Chandigarh people will vote for the candidates on the basis on their performances, not on the basis of their promises.”
“Whenever I have got chance I have done my best for my city people and this time too I assure that if elected my promises will be made visible as people has seen how both BJP and the Congress did not fulfil promises made to people before coming to power,” said Dhawan. Attacking the BJP for its factionalism in mayor elections, Dhawan said that at every stage the party had three groups- Satpal Jain, Sanjay Tandon and Kirron Kher which has led to infighting in the party. “This infighting is definitely going to give a big loss to the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Because of this groupism the BJP has already lost discipline,” said Dhawan. Meanwhile, it was in November last year Dhawan had joined AAP and previously he remained associated with various political parties. Dhawan remained associated with BJP for long eight years was accused of being a party hopper by the BJP leaders and even his relationship with local leaders of the party remained strained for various reasons. While this time the Congress is likely to field Pawan Bansal, the BJP is likely to repeat Kirron Kher as its candidate and now it is interesting to see the city will support which candidate.
In 1989, Dhawan was the Member of Parliament from Chandigarh constituency from Janta Party. He also served as Civil Aviation Minister in the Chandra Shekhar Cabinet. Previously he remained associated with various political parties, including Samajwadi Janata Party, Indian National Lok Dal, Chandigarh Vikas Manch, Bahujan Samaj party and Congress.
