Chandigarh: It will be like mixture of Hindi film Sholey and new film China Town, in which retired Police personnel and former criminals, respectively had been used to tackle crime. The Punjab Government is planning to seek help from 58,000 retired Police personnel from DIG to constable and former drug smugglers to break the supply chain of drug to Punjab. In the border district of State, Ferozepur, more than 400 retired police personnel have taken oath today to fight against rampant smuggling of drugs. From the Government side, MLA of Ferozepur City, Parminder Singh Pinki has given grant of Rs 5 lacs for this noble cause after the approval from the CM. Soon, a meeting of retirees is likely to be held in Chandigarh to seek their services.There are more than 70,000 employees in the Punjab Police. At present there are 10 DGPs and 24 ADGPs besides other senior officers. But such a jumbo setup could not able to control the drug menace in the State. Sources in the Intelligence wing claimed that it has been providing each and every information about the drug to the Police. Drug issue has been taken such a serious shape that the Government had to call a special Cabinet meeting, which is scheduled for tomorrow on Monday.Sources in the Government told that it is planning to take help from the retired police employees. Such experiment had been done during the terrorism time in the State, which was successful. Now it has been started from the bordering district Ferozepur from today. Notable, near about 52,000 retired police personnel had joined Congress before the Punjab Assembly election. In a meeting of retired Police employees, held under the leadership of MLA Pinki, they assured to give their services to tackle drug menace. For their operation, Old building of SSP office has been allotted them by the Cantt. Board. Talking to Daily Post, MLA said that they will give their services, while the Government will take advantage of their experiences.
Other hand, the Police officers have been asked to keep in touch with former criminals, who have left bad path now to know the information of drug suppliers, their kingpins and whereabouts.
