Punjab turns 51: Today is the 51st anniversary of Punjab foundation day. In these 51 years the people of Punjab witnessed considerable ups and downs. Concerns on the Chandigarh and SYL Canal, which started with the partition of Punjab, still continue. For the Punjabi province that the Akali Dal fought for a long time, Akali Dal had split Punjab for the second time. In 1947, the western Punjab was given to Pakistan, which was not only rich but also culturally rich in terms of farming than the Indian Punjab, although in 1956 Patiala and East Punjab State Union also joined the then East Punjab, which was named in 1950 from East Punjab to Punjab.
But the Akali Dal struggled for a long time and after putting pressure on the central government, after about a decade, the partition of Punjab was divided on the basis of language. Due to Justice JC Shah’s report, not only area from Ambala to Faridabad was given to Haryana, but Nalagarh and Solan also merged in Himachal. However, division on the basis of language, Akali Dal in Punjab had got the chance to come to power several times. Immediately after the reconstitution, whether Congress Chief Minister Gurmukh Singh Musafir took charge of Punjab but within five months the Akali Dal’s Saint Fateh Singh Group had formed the government. After five years of restructuring, in 1972, Giani Zail Singh was sworn in as the Congress Chief Minister, but till then four of the five leaders were made from the Akali Dal. Prakash Singh Badal was elected as CM in 1971 for first time.Punjab has definitely given the Akali Dal the political power, but despite that, Punjab could not achieve what it expected. The issue of Chandigarh is unsettled till now. In each election the capital is redeemed as a political issue, but if Punjab was not partitioned, then there would not have been any problem in Chandigarh as well. Apart from this, on the issue of water, if the conflict in Punjab and Haryana does not reach the Supreme Court then there is no dispute on the sharing of water due to being a single state. Punjabi language still waits for their importance in Punjab. So, in these 51 years, Punjab and Punjabis face lot of problems, everyone talk of their solution but yet nothing happened.
