Punjab Youth Congress protesters miss the train in Sangrur. The Punjab Youth Congress on Thursday had decided to block Udaipur-Jammu Tawi Garib Rath Special at the Sangrur railway station to protest police firing on farmers in MP. By the time the local party leaders and workers gathered at the station. The Garib Rath was on time. But the ‘poor’ protesters weren’t. The train had left at its scheduled time of 4.30pm.It was after 40 minutes that another passenger train arrived. What followed was a mere photo op. After its scheduled two-minute halt, the train left for its destination at 5.12pm. But the protesters managed to squeeze in the ‘rail blockade’ by jumping onto the tracks, raising slogans and getting some pictures clicked.“The Narendra Modi government is vitiating the country’s environment,” said Punjab Youth Congress general secretary Poonam Kangra. “Five agitating farmers were killed in MP for demanding loan waiver. BJP’s anti-people policies have been exposed in MP, Maharashtra, Haryana and other states where it is in power, as all these places have witnessed several riots.”Demanding the President’s rule in MP and action against the guilty, Poonam said the Congress government in Punjab will set an example by waiving farm debt.
