Thieves allegedly stole more than Rs 17 lakh cash and gold equipment from the Bank of India branch located in the Administration Block in the high-security zone here. This block has several offices nearby, including the offices of the SSP and the DC. Before fleeing, the thieves also took away the digital video recorder (DVR) of the CCTV camera with them.
Bank employees told the police that when they opened the branch on Monday morning, they found the safe broken and Rs 17,65,000 missing. The thieves opened another safe and took some gold from there. The bank officials said that the safe had gold worth Rs 15.5 millions in it.The police have detained the assistant manager, cashier and class IV employee for investigation.
It is to be mentioned here that no locks of the safe have been broken.The bank manager has been on training for the last few days.Senior Superintend of Police Amarjit Singh Bajwa, SP(D) Harinderpal Singh Parmar, DSP (City) Paramjit Singh, DSP Sukhwinder Singh, CIA Staff in charge Tarlochan Singh, City SHO Jagtar Singh, and City South SHO Palwinder Singh reached the spot and started investigation into the case.
