Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi came under an attack from different political parties soon after he issued a statement regarding 1984 anti-Sikh riots while addressing a gathering at University of California.The young Congress leader however got support from his Sikh party-men back in India. Punjab Congress general secretary Amarjit Singh Tikka said that Gandhi himself told that he is ready to give justice to the community.“While such a senior leader is expressing his views on a world platform that he wants justice for the atrocities on Sikh community, some leaders here in India are trying to politicize the situation and create differences between Congress and Sikhs of the country” said Tikka. He added that majority of Sikhs voted for Congress during assembly elections this year due to which the party won. “Had there been any bitterness in Sikh community against Congress, the party would not have won in Punjab”.HS Phoolka had slammed Rahul Gandhi on his Sikh genocide statement saying that he is shedding “crocodile tears”. Phoolka said stated that if Rahul was concerned about the issue, then he must have taken some action by now and what has he done for 1984 Genocide victims.Congress rural chief of Ludhiana Gurdev Singh Lapran said that BJP and other political parties have always said that they will provide justice to the Sikh community. “But these parties have failed in what they say. It is only Congress that can understand and will provide justice to Sikhs” said Lapran.
Gandhi had expressed that “I lost my father, my grandmother to violence. If I don’t understand violence, I’ll be ignorant,”.
