Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested two persons for planting a bomb like device on the gate of a trader’s house last week, which was aimed at extortion of Rs 5 lakh from the trader.
The accused were identified as Sunny, a resident of New Shiv Nagar in Nagra and Dhananjay Malhotra from Sodal Road also in Jalandhar.
Commissioner of Police Arpit Shukla said that the accused had planned the conspiracy, in a bid to extort Rs 5 lakh from ghee trader Satish Kumar, a resident of the local BSF colony. Satish was a trader in the local Imam Nasir Market of the city.
“Sunny, an ex employee of Satish was a rickshaw puller. He used to supply ghee to the trader on his rickshaw while Dhananjay was a mobile mechanic and known to him”, Arpit Shukla said.
The Commissioner of Police said that the duo was in need of money and hatched a conspiracy by planting a bomb like device on the gate of the trader’s house.
“On March 3, the duo called up Satish Kumar and informed him that they have planted a bomb in his house. An alert Satish Kumar hurriedly informed the police, after which the investigation began and it turned out to be hoax only”, he said.
Shukla said that the police checked the CCTV footage of the house and checked the call details, after which the duo was nabbed. A case was registered against both the accused.
