Ludhiana: It seems as if city roads are turning fatal these days as a number of road accidents are occurring day after another. In yet another incident, two men lost their lives as their motorcycle rammed into truck that took a turn at the road without any indication, near Village Sahni in Sahnewal on Sunday morning.
The impact of collision was so high that both of the bike riders died at the spot. After the incident, the truck driver fled from the spot along with his vehicle. The passersby jotted down the registration number of the vehicle and informed the police about it.The Sahnewal police have lodged a case of reckless driving and causing death due to negligence against unidentified driver of the truck.
The deceased have been identified as Manjinder Singh (21) and Harvinder Singh (23), both residents of Samrala. Inspector Hardeep Singh, SHO at Police Station Sahnewal said that Manjinder Singh and Harvinder Singh were into business of decoration and lightening at marriages and parties. They have come to Sahnewal for some business meeting. Harvinder was driving the motorcycle.
As bikers reached near Village Sahni, a truck plying on the road in front of them took a turn without any indication. Harvinder Singh applied brakes and tried to stop the motorcycle, but the distance between the vehicles was very narrow following which the motorcycle rammed into truck. In the mishap, both of them died at the spot.
SHO said the police have identified the bodies on the basis of documents and I- cards found from pockets of the deceased and informed their relatives. He added that the police have registered the case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC against the truck driver. The police will arrest the accused soon, he added.
