Patiala: Water Supply, Sanitation and Higher Education Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra said that the state government has decided to spend Rs 2,200 crore on the water supply and sanitation projects in 800 villages in the state under which sewerage will also be covered.Rakhra was addressing the people at Rauni Zhundian and Mehmodpur villages in Patiala block after formally laying the foundation stone of new water supply and sanitation schemes and also formally inaugurating the newly-laid streets in Mehmodpur village. He said that whereas on water supply and sanitation schemes for these villages to be completed at Rs 80.18 lakh cost, the construction of streets in Mehmodput costing Rs 9 lakh.
The Minister said that the state government is fully committed to provide potable water to the people living in rural areas of the state and it has taken initiative in this direction. He said that besides the government has also decided to install RO’s in 250 villages in the next coming months so that the people will get only potable water. He said that under the project in other areas 108 new water supply schemes are underway and 1,000 other water supply schemes are under upgradation phase.
