Doctors of Fortis in Amritsar have succeeded in operating a heart of 23 days pre-mature baby. Doctors have claimed that this operation in this condition is the first of Punjab.
The child was suffering from a hole in the heart, that is, Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). After placing in incubator for 20 days, when she given to her mother, baby felt problem in breathing. The checkup showed that the baby girl had a 6×7 mm hole in the heart.
Cardiac surgeon Dr. Rajiv Vashishta said that due to double weight on the heart, the child was repeatedly having heart failure. she placed on ventilator. Cardiac anesthesia specialist Dr. Sunil Kapila, eco-cardiography Dr. Maninder Sidhu, Dr. Tarasam Singh and Dr. Lakki Bhalla’s team closed the hole after the operation for three-and-a-half hours. In two days the baby girl weighed 200 grm. After 22 days of operation, the baby’s weight has now gone upto two kilograms and she is living a normal life.
