Bathinda: Tension mounts high in Faridkot district as even after three days the police were clueless about the identity of the assailants who shot at a Dera Sacha Sauda follower at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village on Monday morning. The dera follower, Gurdev Singh Insaan, is reportedly critical as doctors at the DMCH, Ludhiana, have put him on ventilator since he was rushed to the hospital on Monday. His brain has reportedly stopped responding to the treatment.
With each passing day, the annoyance among dera followers is escalating. Finding it as a serious lapse on the part of police, they have been assembling in their dera at Bargadi village. A large number of followers on Wednesday were seen assembled at the dera from different parts of the state. Sensing the aggression among them, DIG (Bathinda range) Ranbir Singh Khatra and Faridkot SSP SS Mann visited them with an appeal to maintain peace. The cops assured the fuming dera followers to crack the mystery at the earliest. Speaking over phone, dera’s legal cell member advocate Kewal Brar said that the annoyance among the dera followers was increasing with each passing day. “Everyone wants to come on road against the inaction of police.
Since the movement of the Swift car in which the assailants had come has been captured in CCTV footages at different locations, we are surprised why the police have still been unable to trace the accused,” said Brar. He further said, “It is going to be tough to control the dera followers as they are deeply pained now. We urge the police to nab the accused so as to avoid any untoward circumstances in the day ahead.” Gurdev Singh, 35, was shot in the rear of his head by the assailant. The incident took place at about 5.30 am, soon after he opened his grocery shop.
According to information, the three assailants came in a Swift car bearing no number plates. They asked Gurdev for soft drinks but the moment he turned around to fetch the bottles, one of them shot him in the head and they all fled. The agitating dera followers smelt a deep conspiracy behind the attack, stating that he was called by the CBI thrice during the investigation of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib that had taken place last year just next to his shop. Malwa has witnessed various disturbing instances in past nine years after dera-Sikh controversy took place in 2007.
