Fatehgarh Sahib: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday visited Bassi Pathana reserve constituency under ‘Halke Vich Captain’ programme and met people at Gill Palace, Bassi Pathana and addresed their grievances during ‘Lokan Da Durbar’ event. The residents shared their problems, plaguing not just their lives but also their area, and told Capt, matters have been made worse by the nine-year-long misrule of the SAD-BJP combine.
The Captain promised that once Congress forms government, a task force will be set up within the first 100 days to solve their problems. Not just that, an emotional Captain even shared a phone number – 9871200042 where people could directly reach out to him without hesitation. The steel industry in Mandi Gobindgarh, ‘steel town’ of Punjab and the hub of secondary steel production in India, is in dire straits. More than a third of steel and furnace industries have closed down, while the ones that are still functioning have cut down the production to 50 per cent to minimise losses.
Over 5,000 semi-skilled and skilled labourers have lost their jobs due to such closures. Same was the concern shared by Gurmeet Singh of Bassi Pathana who said he has to travel long hours each day to go to his job. Captain assured that when Congress forms government, they will get new industries to the state to generate employment, like they had in 2002-2007. “We had come up with pro-industrial policies during our tenure but the Akalis cancelled them when they came into power.
They are solely responsible for the industrial decline in Punjab. We will bring policies not just to revive or retain the current industries but also to attract new ones.” Some of the residents shared issues that concerned them at personal, constituency, district and state level. Some of the residents spoke of Badal government’s apathy as it did not clear Rs 3.25 crore worth of arrears to MGNREGA workers in Fatehgarh Sahib.
Will get new industries to Punjab like we did in 2002-2007
Lifting and payments will happen the same day
Pension amount to be raised from `250 to `2,000 and paid timely
Capt meets Cong workers
Captain also interacted with local party workers, where they shared constituency issues and suggestions for the party campaign with him. As many as 113 more events are to be held across Punjab, thus taking Captain to every assembly constituency, meeting people, party workers, and the media, thus making them active stakeholders in setting the governance agenda for their state.
Women petitioners also attend event in large numbers
It was an overwhelming presence of women petitioners at Captain Amarinder Singh’s ‘Halke Vich Captain’ event on Saturday at Bassi Pathana, Fategarh Sahib. A total of 5,000 local residents gathered at Lokan Da Durbar event in the historic city, of which 2200 were women.
