Chandigarh:The number of Graduate and Post Graduate MLAs elected to Punjab Vidhan Sabha in recently-concluded assembly polls has overtaken their Class XII pass counterparts. There are 51 Graduates against 45 MLAs who have studied up to Class XII.
Other than Graduates, there are 18 Post Graduates, one Doctorate, while two MLAs have filled their education qualification column with others.
Captain Amarinder Singh who has been elected from Patiala has studied up to Class XII and will take oath today as Chief Minister. The outgoing CM Parkash Singh Badal elected from Lambi is a Graduate and his Deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal is a Post Graduate.
With AAP and its alliance partner getting 22 seats in assembly, the Leader of Opposition H S Phoolka elected from Mullanpur Dakha is a Graduate. The most literate member in terms of studies in the house is Dr Raj Kumar of Congress who has Doctorate and has been elected from Chabbewal.
The least educated is SAD MLA Ajit Singh Kohar who has studied up to Class V and has been elected from Shahkot.
Whereas, out of six females elected to assembly, three from AAP are Post Graduate and the ones from Congress are Graduate, Classes XI and X pass-outs.
