Ferozepur: A 54-year-old debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by jumping into the canal nearby his native place, on Friday at Ferozepur. The deceased has been identified as Surjit Singh resident of village Balle Wala in Ferozepur. The deceased was survived by three children including a daughter. Pargat Singh relative of deceased said that Surjit Singh has been suffering from the financial losses due to which he had loaned the amount of Rs 30 Lakhs. He added that his wife and a son was undergoing treatment due to which he had borrowed the money couple of years back. Pargat said that meanwhile his wife died during the treatment and the amount rose to lakhs that includes the interest. He added that Pargat sold a piece of land to pay off his loan amount. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Satnam Singh said that a police party reached at the spot soon after receiving the information and struggling to search the body. He added that the police were taking the assistance of the divers to trace the body of Pargat. Meanwhile the police have initiated the inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC.
