Tasrika (Pb): Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today said 90 per cent work related to the mutation of denotified Sutlej-Yamuna-Link (SYL) canal land has been completed in favour of “rightful owners”.
“Almost 90 per cent mutation of land acquired for the SYL canal has been completed in favour of real and original owners, and the remaining will be completed within a few days,” he said here.
The Punjab Cabinet on November 15 had announced to denotify land acquired for the SYL project and return it to the “original land owners, their lineal descendants or representatives” at no cost.
Revenue officials have been working day and night to transfer the ownership of the land to the “original owners” at no cost after the state government’s decision, he said Around 5,300 acres denotified land mainly spread across Patiala, Ropar, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib would be returned, the Minister informed.
“Despite strong hindrances, the Punjab government has denotified the SYL canal land and returned the land to the real owners,” Majithia said.
The Minister also thanked revenue officials and other employees for cooperating in implementing the decision of the Cabinet and Assembly.
He said that for this contribution the coming generations will always remember everyone who contributed in returning land back to its owners. PTI
