Resignation of Captain and Cong MLAs a political stunt
Muktsar: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday lashed out at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stating that AAP government in Delhi submitted an affidavit against the state in Apex court on Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue and here in Punjab it is shedding crocodile’s tears to bake political breads.
Badal said that disguised in the robe of Aam Aadmi (common man), the party activists and leaders are working overtime against the interests of the state.
Further, describing the resignation by Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh and 42 other party MLAs a mere political stunt, CM dared Amarinder to explain why the other Congress MPs had not resigned to express solidarity with state in this hour of crisis.
CM added that it was ironical that as polls for state assembly were due within few months so all the Congress MLAs had resigned but MPs had shied away as they had fairly enough time to end their tenure.Badal added that it was an open secret that Captain was desirous of contesting assembly polls due to which he had resigned from Lok Sabha on pretext of verdict of Supreme Court to mislead people.
Justifying the decision of SAD leaders to not offer resignation, Chief Minister said that as custodian of Punjabis Akali Dal is duty bound to protect their interests, which could be best done by remaining at the helms of the affairs in the state.
He quipped that the state government has called special session of state assembly on November 16 to chalk out the strategy for dealing with the crisis. He also said that Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will hold a huge gathering of Punjabis at Moga on December 8 and start a campaign for “Pani Bachao, Punjab Bachao.”
Recalling the “grave conspiracy conceived by Congress” to divest the state of its legitimate share in river waters, the Chief Minister held the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi squarely responsible for Punjab’s crisis as she forced the erstwhile Congress Chief Minister of Punjab Darbara Singh into signing an agreement to give away Punjab’s waters to Haryana forcing him to withdraw Supreme Court Case filed by him to protect Punjab river water interests.
Badal also held Amarinder Singh responsible for inviting Indira Gandhi to start the digging of canal at Kapuri.
Asked to comment on the problems being faced by the people in wake of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, Chief Minister said that after initial hiccups this scheme will act as a catalyst to wipe out social maladies like corruption and black money from country.
