Nawanshahr: Though the gathering of AAP’s volunteers of nine assembly segments falling in Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency held at Ropar on Friday far exceeded even the expectations of the organizers, volunteers on their return seemed upset as the senior leadership did not even touch the issue for which they were reportedly called there.
As per some of the volunteers who preferred anonymity, they were invited by the organizers to discuss and know their view-point about the suitability or otherwise of the ticket aspirants for the assembly seats in the parliamentary constituency but they were shocked as this issue was not even touched upon during the meeting by any of the party leaders including Sanjay Singh, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Himmat Singh Shergill, besides the zonal and sector incharges.
“We felt as if we were taken for a ride as leader after leader just talked of party’s plan to gherao chief minister’s residence in Chandigarh on May 16 in protest against the alleged scam of missing grains worth Rs 12,000 crore from the state’s godowns and due to which RBI was reluctantly releasing funds for the procured wheat in the state,” said one of the them.
Majority of these volunteers who preferred to call themselves “volunteers of mombatti brigade” (candle march volunteers of the times of Anna Hazare movement) as they have been associated with the movement of “change of governance” since the days of Anna Hazare movement, termed the move of the organizers to invite them on a sly as childish “which could cost the party dear in the coming assembly poll”.
One of them said the party high command urgently needed to discipline its B-team managing the state affairs as such maneuverings would not be in its interests in future.
“The party leadership must realize that people of the state are against the traditional political outfits because they have been befooling them for decades and they (people) would least expect this thing from the new outfit (AAP),” he said.
One of the dejected volunteer even compared AAP with a bubble which would burst sooner than later because of such follies. AAP Zone Observer for Anandpur Sahib Chandan Singh, however, denied that the volunteers were invited to know their views about the probable ticket aspirants. He said the circle volunteers were just asked to bring with them the active volunteers whose names they had sent in their lists so that they too could listen to the views of senior leadership. He maintained that the volunteers had been clearly told that the meeting would be about the party’s plan to gherao CM’s office on May 16.
