Ludhiana October 31 : – The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a demonstration-cum-farmers training programme on “ Adopt Straw Management Techniques ” in the village Tihara under the project “Enhancing Diffusion of Paddy Straw Management Technologies in Punjab,” funded by NABARD.Welcoming the farmers, Dr Dharminder Singh, Assistant Extension Specialist, asked the farmers to shun the practice of paddy straw burning. He also discussed the ill effects of straw burning on human and environmental health. Dr K.B. Singh, Soil Scientist, elaborated the role of paddy straw incorporation in enhancing soil fertility. He also shared information on the judicious use of fertilizers in wheat crop.Another expert from Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Dr Jasveer Singh Gill highlighted different techniques of paddy straw management. He explained the benefits and functioning of PAU cutter-cum-spreader and PAU Happy Seeder for managing paddy straw and sowing wheat. He also addressed the queries of the farmers about these machines. Later, sowing of wheat with PAU Happy Seeder was demonstrated at farmer’s field, which was attended by nearly 40 farmers. Mr Parveen Bhatia, DDM, NABARD also attended this programme.
