THE CBI COURT IS SCHEDULED TO PRONOUNCE THE VERDICT AGAINST DERA SACHA SAUDA HEAD GURMEET RAM RAHIM IN CHATTARPATI MURDER CASE ON JANUARY 11
Three days ahead of the Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s scheduled appearance before the CBI court in infamous Chattarpati murder case, Mansa police have seized currency notes worth Rs 3 crore from two of his followers. Police in collaboration with the civil administration and Income Tax officials have launched a probe if the money was meant for distribution among the sect followers for any activity in the wake of the scheduled pronouncement of the court verdict. Notably, the two persons in question belong to Sirsa and they are a couple, identified as Nirmal Singh and Sukhchain Kaur. It is learnt that acting upon a tip-off, Mansa police had laid a checking naka near bus stand at Behniwal in Mansa district, which was being supervised by two DSP rank officials. The cops intercepted an Etios car, bearing registration number HR44J5096, which was en route from Sirsa to Deliyawal via Behniwal. During the search of the vehicle, the cops on duty found two black colour bags lying in the car. Opening the bags, the cops found them filled with currency notes. As the couple failed to give a satisfactory reply related to the source of the money, the cops called the SDM Mansa and some Income Tax officials on the spot. Bringing all further proceedings under the camera recording, the officials counted the money with note teller machines and found the total cash worth Rs 2.99 crore.
“We registered the case under section 102 of the CrPC and handed over the currency to the Income Tax officials. As the offence was bailable, the two were allowed to leave after the preliminary round of questioning,” said Mansa SSP Mandhir Singh, while speaking to Daily Post. Divulging more details, the SSP said: “The couple belongs to Sirsa and they are dera followers.” Asked, if the money could be used in any criminal act, as it was alleged during Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s previous appearance in Panchkula CBI court, the SSP said: “The couple claimed the money belonged to some construction company but couldn’t give satisfactory replies to our further queries. As the matter has now been shifted to the Income Tax officials, we believe they would probe it in detail and ascertain the source and purpose of the money.” It is pertinent to mention that after the previous appearance of Ram Rahim in the CBI court, his followers had turned violent and had clashed with police during which over 40 people were killed and properties worth crores were torched and damaged. Later on, the investigation agencies had found that the violent mob (dera followers) was paid the huge amount of money for the whole act.
