Ajmer Aulakh Punjabi play writer dies at 75, was suffering from cancer

Ajmer Singh Aulakh was a Punjabi play writer (born in 1942 at Kishangarh Village Pharwahi, Mansa District Punjab). He breathed last after a prolonged ailment at his Mansa home in the early morning on June 15,2017.He was suffering from cancer and fought with the disease bravely. Known for pro-people stance, rural Punjabi diction and direct speak to power he lived by his values. He was rare blend of activist and artist. He led campaigns against state repression from the front. He brought the wretched of the earth to stage, exposed tyrannies of the state and confronted the perils religious intolerance.

He was discharged from Fortis Hospital in Mohali last week after being hospitalised for a month. The state government had announced to bear the expenses of his medical treatment.The Sahitya Akademi awardee was suffering from cancer.
