Chandigarh: Terming Capt Amarinder Singh as a ‘circus lion acting on diktats of his hired master’, Punjab BJP chief, Vijay Sampla on Friday said that it was time Punjab Congress chief ‘stop being misguided by ill-advice of his hired strategists and stop hurting farmers’ sentiments’. “Everyone is aware of politics which Congress has been playing over debt-ridden farmers hence the slogans given by Captain’s hired master can’t fool the farmers”, he said referring to Prashant Kishor.
Holding the Congress responsible for plight of farmers in the state, Sampla said, “The policies of successive Congress governments which have ruled the nation for the past seven decades are responsible for the pathetic condition of the farmers.
The farmers of Punjab haven’t forgotten the step-motherly treatment meted out to them by the Manmohan Singh government in 2008. Not a single paisa reached the farmers of the state when the Central government had announced the Rs 70,000 Crore debt waiver for the farmers of the nation, all because of Capt. Amarinder Singh and the Congress leadership, who failed our Annadata. The plight of the farmers has turned from bad to worse due to Congress’ anti-people policies.”
Sampla said a lot needs to be done to get the farmers out of their present situation. “Today, whatever you do, the efforts will fall short. The Congress and AAP are promising to waive off the debt of farmers, but the intentions of Captain and Kejriwal are still suspicious. This because the way farmers are reeling under debt burden, their plight can’t be overcome with a single waiver,” he said.
Sampla stated that present government allotted Rs 35,984 crore for the agriculture sector this financial. This is the largest sum ever allotted for the agri-sector by any Central government since independence.
