Chandigarh: Dubbing Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh as “prophet of doom”, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday said Punjab didn’t have the history of electoral violence. In a sharp reaction to Captain Amarinder’s interview in which he stated that the elections in the state, to be held next year, are going to be violent, SAD spokesperson Maheshinder Singh Grewal said Punjab Congress chief had voiced similar concerns five years ago. “But people of Punjab had given him a rebuff by holding most peaceful poll in the entire country,” Grewal, who is also a political adviser of the CM, said, wondering if Amarinder was genuinely scared of a possible violence. “Is he using threat of impending violence to scare away peace-loving Punjabis? Or is he himself conspiring to create violence to vitiate the political environment?” he said.
