Fatehgarh Sahib: Amloh Assembly segment in Fatehgarh Sahib district is set to witness a triangular contest between SAD-BJP candidate Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna, Aam Adami Party candidate Gurpreet Singh Bhatti and Congress which is yet to declare its candidate.
SAD candidate Gurpreet Raju Khanna has been active in Amloh constituency for last 8-9 years but Deputy Chief Minister and SAD president Sukhbir Badal announced him party candidate during two day Sangat Darshan in Amloh constituency on August 23-24 . At the time of announcement Raju Khanna immediately got support of eminent social worker Dr Raghbir Shukla, who was strong contender of AAP ticket from Amloh. Dr Shukla joined SAD with efforts of Raju Khanna during Sangat Darshan programme. Raju Khanna is former president of SOI and was strong contender of party’s ticket in last assembly election but the ticket was allotted to Jagdeep Singh Cheema, who lost to Randeep Singh Nabha of Congress.
Dy CM has taken bold step when he replaced Jagdeep Cheema who hails from village Karimpura under Bassi Pathana reserve constituency and appointed Raju Khanna, who is close to Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, as Amloh constituency in-charge.
Jagdeep Cheema is a son of former PWD Minister and was appointed Right to Service Commissioner and Jagdeep’s son Gurmeet Cheema was appointed Director, Markfed . Sukhbir also changed assembly constituency of sitting Bassi Pathana MLA Justice(retd) Nirmal Singh, who reportedly did not enjoy good relations with Cheema and Bassi Pathana is a stronghold of Cheema.
AAP has fielded Gurpreet Singh Bhatti from Amloh and he is nephew of former Sirhind MLA and SAD’s Fatehgarh Sahib assembly segment candidate Didar Singh Bhatti. Gurpreet served long term in SAD but after some differences with Sukhbir he joined hands with Manpreet Badal and actively worked with him. After Manpreet joined Congress, Bhatti chose to join AAP.
Randeep Singh Nabha is sitting Congress MLA from Amloh constituency and is a strong contender of party ticket. Randeep family has a strong base in Nabha but after delimitation, he shifted to Amloh constituency during 2012 assembly elections. Former Municipal Council Mandi Gobindgarh president Jagmeet Singh Sahota is also claimant of Congress ticket from Amloh.
Sahota was earlier expelled from Congress after which he contested election on PPP ticket. After PPP merged with Congress, Sahota again shifted his loyalty towards Congress.
District Congress Committee, Fatehgarh Sahib president Harinder Singh Bhambri, who has support of senior Congress leaders, is also contender of Congress ticket. Mandi Gobindgarh municipal councilor Ramandeep Kaur Bal wife of senior Congress leader Sandeep Singh Bal, who is close to former MP Vijayinder Singla, is also eyeing ticket from this segment.
In assembly elections 2012, Congress candidate Randeep Singh Nabha defeated SAD-BJP candidate Jagdeep Singh Cheema and PPP candidate Jagmeet Singh Sahota. Labh Singh Ahluwalia and Gurdev Singh Khanian contested independents as both were denied ticket by Congress.
