Amritsar professor kidnapped, 3 lakh ransom demanded. A 31-year-old female professor at the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) here has allegedly been kidnapped with her family members receiving a call for a ransom of Rs 3 lakh, police said on Saturday. Sukhpreet Kaur, an assistant professor of Hindi, had gone missing on Monday and the matter was reported to the police on Friday evening after her father received a ransom call from the kidnappers, a police officer said.Her father told police that a man had called him from Kaur’s mobile phone on Friday evening and demanded Rs 3 lakh for her release, the officer said. “Police are looking into the matter from all possible angles and a team will soon be formed to trace her,” the police officer said, adding that efforts were on to contact her acquaintances as well. “We are Police said that Kaur, a resident of Baghapurana town of Moga district, had left the university on Monday for her hometown, but she did not reach her destination,” police said. Police registered a case and are investigating the matter. Kaur was appointed at the university on ad-hoc basis.
