Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday reiterated the pledge that the SAD-BJP government would leave no stone unturned to ensure that the state emerges and continues to remain at top spot in terms of development on economic and social index.
Inaugurating a host of development centric projects, the Deputy Chief Minister said that special attention would be paid to the overall facelifting of Amritsar and transform it into a hub of tourism because it is the holy city and Punjabi people the world over are deeply attached with it.
He said that the SAD-BJP government has accomplished various development works in the holy city Amritsar, which includes city entrance gate costing Rs 8 crore, Entrance Plaza near Sri Darbar Sahib at Rs 200 crore, Fort Gobindgarh renovated with Rs 95 crore, and constructed heritage village at Rs 15 crore.
Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of an ROB to be constructed on the Tarn Taran-Amritsar road at a cost of Rs 130 crore. He also inaugurated other projects including mechanical sweeping machines, new building of MC office and solid waste management project at a cost of Rs 460 crore thus initiating projects to the tune of around Rs 600 crore.
However, recently nominated on the ticket of BJP Member Parliament Shwait Malik on Sunday registered strong resentment before the Chief Secretary for not inviting him for state-level programmes of inauguration in Amritsar.
In a letter written to Chief Secretary said that he (Malik) was not invited in Sunday’s different programmes ie inauguration of new building of Municipal Corporation, inauguration of Solid Waste Management Plant and inauguration of Mechanical Sweeping project.
Describing the incident as gross violation of norms laid down by the Union government, Malik said that his name was nowhere mentioned in the inaugural stones and newspaper advertisements. “By virtue being Member Parliament from Rajya Sabha, I am also co-chairman of District Development of Coordination and Monitoring Committee and was not taken into confidence at all,” he quipped.
Meanwhile, on Sunday AAP activists and SAD suspended MLA Inderbir Singh Boloria staged a protest just few hours before arrival of Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal at the spot where Solid Waste Management Project was inaugurated. They were also rounded up by police.
