Anganwadi workers’ protest against Pb Govt’s anti-people policies
Patiala(Jagdeep Chopra) – The people of the royal city known as the hometown of the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh faced with hardships and inconvenience on Monday as thousands of Anganwadi workers assembled here and organized a massive protest dharna against the anti-people and anti-poor policies being pursued by the Union as well as the state government. There was a total Hoch pouch type situation in the city because of the Dharna as the people went tremendous inconvenience as the areas near to the dharna site get chocked and vehicular traffic came to a standstill for hours.Even though the administration has taken various steps and the police was deployed in strength to control the situation but in vain as on the ground level, the police badly failed to control the things. The Anganwadi workers were ferried from far furlong areas of the state in vehicles and it was a massive demonstration of the strength. The protesters sat on dharna in front of the Corner Hotel side on the mall road thus blocking the bus stand as well as the entry point of the railway station here and the exit point of the bus stand faced a bottleneck of the vehicular traffic with the traffic running at snail’ pace and it witnessed serpentine lines too.While rotating the vehicular traffic the police switched off the traffic control lights at this point and tried to run the traffic manually but it failed badly. The people living in Vikas Colony, Gurbax Colony, Guru Nanak Nagar, Bishan Nagar, Ram Nagar, Bajwa Colony areas across the Rajpura Colony particularly faced hardships in reaching their destinations because of the dharna. On the other side while addressing the dharna the leaders of the Anganwadi workers namely Harjit Kaur, Santosh Rani, and Usha Rani lamented against the governments for pursuing the anti-people and anti-poor policies and following the pro-rich and capitalistic policies and reiterated that this protest will continue till the governments not mend their policies accordingly.
