Batala: Two days after the death of three local youths in a road accident, Batala police arrested the driver of the bus, who reportedly hit a motorcycle from rear near village Sahabpura on Amritsar Pathankot highway and fled away.
Giving information, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Civil Lines police station, Santok Singh said that Happy Masih, resident of Talwani Jhiuran lodged a complaint with police that his son Jakob Masih along with his friends Prince and Neesha were coming to Batala from Amritsar. As they reached near Sahabpura, a private bus bearing registration number PB-02 BJ- 9833, hit their motorcycle from rear. Jakob and Prince died on the spot while Neesha died on his way to hospital.
After getting the CCTV footage from the Kathunangal (Amritsar) toll plaza, the police impounded the private bus of Baba Budha Sahib company, which is owned by former speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha and SAD leader, Nirmal Singh Kahlon.
On the basis of tip-off, a police team managed to arrest the driver of the bus, Sukhdeep Singh resident of Dariwal Sohian and a case under section 304 A was registered against him at civil lines police station.
The family members and relatives of the victims held a dharna outside civil lines police station and alleged that under pressure of the politician, police was resisting to arrest the bus driver.
